A lab ventilation system is the most critical safety component of any lab as it helps control chemical exposure. The focus until now has mostly been on individual products like fume hoods, spot extractors, ventilated enclosures etc. However, none of these products will work unless they are a part of a properly designed and maintained lab ventilation system.

A properly designed LVS will include an ideal fume hood design and all of the individual products bringing them together to deliver the safest conditions, while delivering optimal energy utilization. The lab ventilation system is more of the master that controls and determines the efficiency of the various ECDs. Hence, it is essential that all ECDs are integrated with the LVS and synchronized with the HVAC system from the design stage itself. Air changes are a critical aspect of the LVS and must be determined based on the type of work being done in the labs. A certain number of ACH are required to flush out any fugitive contaminants that may have entered the lab.
